To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.
A Robin Redbreast in a Cage
Puts all Heaven in a Rage.
A dove house fill’d with doves and pigeons
Shudders Hell thro’ all its regions.
A Dog starv’d at his Master’s Gate
Predicts the ruin of the State.
A Horse misus’d upon the Road
Calls to Heaven for Human blood.
Each outcry of the hunted Hare
A fiber from the Brain does tear.
He who shall train the Horse to War
Shall never pass the Polar Bar.
The Beggar’s Dog and Widow’s Cat,
Feed them and thou wilt grow fat.
The Gnat that sings his Summer song
Poison gets from Slander’s tongue.
The poison of the Snake and Newt
Is the sweat of Envy’s Foot.
A truth that’s told with bad intent
Beats all the Lies you can invent.
It is right it should be so;
Man was made for Joy and Woe;
And when this we rightly know
Thro’ the World we safely go.
Every Night and every Morn
Some to Misery are Born.
Every Morn and every Night
Some are Born to sweet delight.
Some are Born to sweet delight,
Some are Born to Endless Night.
Goal Plan for 2011-2012
1.@ Beginning of semester: make weekly schedule
-list study resources and try them out
-find study groups for each class; try them out; decide within the first week which ones you will stick with.(BIOEHS, MEP academic learning, SLC)
- develop a schedule of when you do what homework and how much of it for how long.
-set aside time for career development
-look for environ. or eng. clubs and go to the meetings; choose one to stick with; set aside time for the club activities.
-set aside time to excercise
2. Start organized, stay organized
- get a box to file all papers for every class and activity you have
-clean desk after every use
- do laundry once a week
-BEFORE CLASS: review last lectures notes, then preread the next section!
-Record lecture material(especially for humanities)
-When taking notes always have a pen(for important stuff); a pencil(for examples); and a highlighter(for especially important stuff)
-Revisit class notes and make note of important points
-Give yourself breaks
-have a plan of how to catch up or not fall behind when there is a midterm in another class.
1. before you start studying, think about the topic you are about to study. be curious about the topic. Then you will have a motivation to study and it’ll be easier to get into the zone.
-Stick with your schedule(make it possible)
-Set a buffer time for making up material
-Have a plan of how to catch up or not fall behind when there is a midterm in another class.
- If you are going to lecture, make use of the time you spend there by staying alert and asking questions
*Things to “Recall” :]
- you take tests best when you feel prepared
-prepared to be suprised.
-don’t panic on a hard test; NEVER assume you don’t have the knowledge to do a problem. They can always be figured out with what you learned.
- you have friends. don’t neglect them.
- you also have a family. don’t neglect them either.
- be aware of your personal brand. What do you want it to be?
- listen to music when you can. it keeps a body happy.
"For all the tendencies we have to be pulled in the wrong direction and make dumb decisions all of us in our lives, we also have the capacity to transcend ourselves. and while it does not always occur at moments of greatest challenge, we can draw upon that capacity. this is one of those times." - Al Gore
I don’t care for more money than I need. I don’t care for a flawless life. All I want is to live day by day inspired by everything around me to find happiness even in the most trying situations. Day by day I want to be driven by my dreams to be fascinated with everything around me, and I want to share this inspiration with others. Everywhere I go and with whomever I meet, I want to learn to share laughter and happiness and a consistent optimism that I communicate through my actions. I don’t care for more money than I need. I don’t care for a flawless life.
sometimes i catch myself looking at other peoples pictures on facebook, and i think…wtf. my life is more important than this.
When I’m grocery shopping it can take me 10 minutes to weigh the pros and cons of purchasing multi-grain bread vs. whole wheat bread. So what jobs and grad schools am I going to apply too… I’m going to need a few minutes

Take me to the beach. I need some fresh air and a cool breeze would be nice.
Meditating next to a tree
I feel like writing a river of words. To describe an emotion that flicks by like a shooting star. A blink, a tap, a gust of wind picks me up and carries me. Leaving me at the opening of a meadow of tall grass. I step toward it cautiously. The sense of adventure that I used to have is roped in words and fenced up by variables.
Knots. Knots in my shoulders and back that clench my blood in clots. But as I walk along this path through soft meadows that I had never seen before. As the sky turns from a heated blue to a soft pink. As the sun sinks below the horizon and coaxes the moon up from the behind sloping shadows of distant mountains. The knots loosen and I am cradled in the coos of sleepy birds and the longing chirp of crickets. Fireflies rise in front of me, sparkling green and yellow reflecting in my eyes.
The housemaid took it away.
Bundled up in dirty sheets and a comforter.
I came back to a tidied bed.
Blankets draped over the mattress.
Like an image in a furniture catalog.
A different texture, a different smell
A different outfit
I had been guarding it carefully until then.
But just like that it was gone.
Something came and took it away.
And just like that it is gone.
